Data conversion assessments

Details:

Data conversion assessments have been performed as part of the support of financial statement audit clients.  Many have involved conversions to SAP.  A significant client example is described below.

Electronics Manufacturer

Anthony managed the external audit support review of this client’s major SAP transformation, effort of approximately 1,500 hours.  A primary aspect of this review was an assessment of the data conversion both prior and post-implementation to assess accuracy and completeness of the financial data being converted to the new system.   A controls based approach was initially taken during the pre-implementation phase to assess the client’s data validation and testing procedures primarily, then more of a substantive approach was taken once the conversion had occurred.   Working with the client’s Internal Audit and Compliance teams, my team reviewed documentation supporting the various objects including RICEFs, conversion strategies, test and verification plans, cycle based testing results, and data reconciliation and before / after data sources.   Also, given the global nature of the client, certain local procedures were coordinated with local financial statement audit teams.  

Benefits to Client:

The client received the benefit of a third party performing a review of their conversion processes and validation of the integrity of the actual conversion.  The audit team received comfort that the data making up the new financial reports represent the true financial position as per the legacy systems.
